Kent A. Jeffirs is has served as the elected Judge of the Crown Point City Court since 2004. Kent has been a Crown Point resident for 28 years and is married to Calliopi Liontakis Jeffirs. Together they raised their three children, Stephen, Nicholas, and Maria, who all graduated from Crown Point High School. Professionally, Judge Jeffirs has been an attorney for 29 years, Crown Point City Judge for the last 17 years, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame, with honors, and Indiana University School of Law School, Magna Cum Laude.
As Crown Point City Judge for the past 17 years, Judge Jeffirs has worked hard to handle fairly and efficiently all the City’s many cases including misdemeanors, traffic tickets, and city ordinance violations. Judge Jeffirs has also spearheaded numerous improvements to the City Court including additional staffing and training, new and improved Court location, available Court parking, a walk-up service window, and updated computer systems. The new computer systems include online case information, online payment of traffic tickets, e-tickets, and electronic filing. Additional services Judge Jeffirs developed and are now available to persons utilizing the City Court include the Traffic Ticket Deferral Program, creation of the Crown Point Probation Department, youth education, community service, substance abuse treatment, and community outreach programs.
As a result of Crown Point being such a desirable place to live, work, and participate in sports and leisure activities, Crown Point now has the largest population, largest development and new construction, and largest police force in the City’s history. With that growth comes great responsibility to manage that growth in a way that can best preserve the City’s “hometown feel” while continuing to meet the needs of its citizens, which for the City Court means keeping up with the growing caseload and continuing strong enforcement of our City Ordinances and state laws to maintain a safe and secure community.
