Sauerman Newsflash

This year, the City of Crown Point is poised to revitalize Sauerman Woods Park, enhancing the quality of life on the south side of the city, while upgrading infrastructure.

Later this summer, the city is slated to begin phase one of the Sauerman Woods Park Drainage Improvement Project. Phase one includes the demolition of Hub Pool and the excavation of a new pond (diagram A).  Bids for the project are set to go out in early July, with work slated to begin later this summer.

Phase two will begin at the end of 2022/early 2023 and will focus on upgrading recreation amenities, providing oversized vehicle parking and upgrading the existing skate park at the Sportsplex. (diagrams B, D, E).

The final phase, a roundabout at U.S. 231 and South Street is set to be complete in 2024 (diagram C).

At its core, the project will upgrade stormwater capacity and improve drainage.

When complete, residents will be able to walk around a new pond, rent a paddle boat or go fishing at Sauerman Woods. The community also will have the opportunity to reflect on those who paid the ultimate sacrifice with a Lake County World Wars I and II Veterans Memorial and Holocaust Remembrance tribute by the Friends of the Veterans Memorial Parkway. The new amenities will complement the existing gazebo and playground.
