Experience musicians and bands right in the heart of downtown Crown Point. Concerts will be held in the Franciscan Health Amphitheater on various Thursdays during the Car Cruise and Saturday nights throughout the summer.
Opening Act (4:15-5:15 p.m.): Deuces Wild (Pop/Country)
Headliner (5:30-8 p.m.): Mellencougar (John Mellencamp tribute)
Songs for and about blue collar America are the foundation of the John Mellencamp songbook and that's the foundation of live performances by Mellencougar & More, a national touring tribute to Indiana's famous rocker, founded and fronted by radio personality Don Wilson of 95 WIIL Rock. One of the longest-running John Mellencamp tribute groups, the Gurnee, Illinois-based Mellencougar, has performed shows many times in Mellencamp's home town of Seymour, Indiana, in front of Mellencamp family members. The band also has performed on stage many times with members of Mellencamp's own band, including several performances with Toby Myers and Moe Z M.D. as special guest band members. Along with dishing out all the popular Mellencamp songs one expects to sing along with — "Little Pink Houses," "Jack & Diane," "Cherry Bomb," "Small Town," "Hurts So Good," "Crumblin' Down," and others — Mellencougar peppers in some deep album cuts to the delight of its audience, like "Grandview," "Get A Leg Up," "Key West Intermezzo" and "What If I Came Knocking?" In recent years, the band took to billing its shows as Mellencougar & More, which reflect its penchant to slip in some songs by other kindred roots-rockers like John Fogerty, Tom Petty, Joe Cocker and a handful of others. Opening this show will be acoustic/electric duo Dueces Wild, featuring vocalist Jill Field and guitarist/vocalist Chris Bolint, both of the NWI rock group Zodiac.
