Inspections
Once a building permit is issued Applicants can begin work on the project and must call in for required inspections. Inspections are completed by the Crown Point Building, Fire, Electrical, HVAC & Plumbing Inspectors. Please note the Electrical, HVAC & Plumbing Inspectors are part-time inspectors. There are also inspections that must be completed by other departments which are required before a Certificate of Occupancy can be issued.
Applicants are required to schedule all necessary inspections and the number of inspections varies per project. Please refer to the City of Crown Point Inspection Requirement sheet for questions regarding required inspections or contact the Building Department if you are not sure if an inspection is required. Inspections cannot be called in until they are ready, and the Building Department does not schedule dates and times for inspections. Inspections can be scheduled by calling the Crown Point Building Department (219) 662-3239 ext. 1. You will need to provide your first name, jobsite address, permit #, type of inspection and any special instructions regarding access. The Crown Point Building Department strives to complete all inspection requests within 3 business days however this time period may be longer due to high volume of inspections or circumstances out of our control. Inspections not able to be completed due to no access will result in a red tag and a $25.00 re-inspection fee.
