The City of Crown Point began collecting data to input into the GIS system in 2006, and to date have created over 470 layers of current and historical information. Some examples of this layering are where underground utilities are located, information on City parks, zoning, historical data on street inventories and data tracking of road conditions to name a few. We are continually updating and expanding our data sets to make the information as current as possible for our employees as well as being able to provide this information to our developers and residents.
This has allowed us to transition from paper mapping in file cabinets to a website with infrastructure data available to staff the public. City crews also have this data available to them via mobile mapping on phones and tablets. To view on our City online mapping site which can be found here. https://crownpointin.elevatemaps.io/
