The Board of Public Works and Safety consists of the Mayor and two members appointed by the Mayor. Responsibilities of the Board include: control over City streets, sanitation and garbage, transportation, the sewer utility and the water utility. Additionally, the Board's authority includes public safety issues such as the hiring and discipline of Police, Fire and Emergency personnel. The Board is responsible for evaluating and approving contracts on behalf of the City. This includes the bid process for the purchase of equipment for the various City departments.
